Technical characteristics and development trend of the coking industry

According to different quenching methods, coke production can be divided into wet quenching and dry quenching. Domestic coke plants generally use wet quenching technology, which is low in cost but has relatively high pollution and affects coke quality. In contrast, dry quenching technology has obvious environmental advantages, but higher costs. Currently, with the gradual improvement of environmental protection requirements in the coking industry, the transformation from wet quenching to dry quenching will become an inevitable trend in the development of the domestic coking industry.

According to the height of the carbonization chamber, coke ovens are classified into 4.3-meter coke ovens, 5.5-meter coke ovens, 6-meter coke ovens, 7-meter coke ovens, etc. In June 2020, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the "Coking Industry Specification Conditions" (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Announcement [2020] No. 28), which clearly further accelerates the transformation and upgrading of the coking industry, promotes technological progress in the coking industry, improves the comprehensive utilization rate of resources and energy conservation and environmental protection levels, and applies to coking production enterprises within the People's Republic of China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan), further raising the industry's entry threshold.
